California restaurant owner refuses to serve customers in Trump's cap

The owner and chef of a restaurant in San Mateo, California, wrote on Twitter that he would not allow customers to enter the establishment wearing hats with Donald Trump's campaign slogan "Make America Great Again", comparing these hats to the hoods of Ku- Klux Klan and Nazi swastikas.

The owner almost immediately deleted this controversial tweet, but Internet users have a very long memory, writes The Blaze.

Jay Kenji Lopez-Alt, who runs the establishment Wursthall Restaurant and Bierhaus in San Mateo, made the post 28 January.

In a recently deleted tweet, the chef wrote: “This has not happened yet, but if you come to my restaurant in the MAGA cap, you will not be served, just as if you came with a swastika, a white hood or any other symbol of intolerance and hatred ".

The chef also added: “The MAGA caps look like the white hoods of the Ku Klux Klan, except that wearing them is even more stupid because you can see the face of the one who wears them.”

He explained: “If you are comfortable sitting next to the owner of the MAGA cap, I, most likely, are not interested in serving you either.”

The day after the initial tweet, Lopez-Alt was forced to explain: “I did not say that MAGA caps are racist. I did not even say that the people who wear them are racists. I said MAGA caps are a support for racist ideas. It doesn't necessarily make you a racist, but it certainly connects you to them. ”

López-Alt is a self-described atheist and feminist, and an award-winning cookbook author.

The restaurateur’s tweet attracted enormous attention from netizens even before it was deleted: many expressed their support for it, but there were also many who accused him of discriminating people because of their political views.

Although Lopez-Alt deleted the tweet, this did not prevent social network users from continuing to discuss it over the next few days.
