Vakhtang Kikabidze was buried in Tbilisi: his coffin was covered with the flags of Georgia and Ukraine

People's Artist of Georgia and Honored Artist of Ukraine, who was often affectionately called Buba, was escorted to the last journey in the Grand Concert Hall of Tbilisi (Georgia) to applause and his songs. The publication told more about the memorial service with the BBC.

An incredible number of people came to the farewell ceremony. The coffin of the deceased was covered with the flags of Georgia and Ukraine.

The Minister of Culture of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko, who came to the funeral of Kikabidze, read out a message from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the farewell ceremony.

“Ukrainians thank Vakhtang Kikabidze for his support in the fight against the Russian aggressor. The name of Vakhtang Kikabidze will be inscribed in the history of Ukraine as the name of a great Georgian who contributed to the defense of the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine. We will always remember this and will never forget,” the Ukrainian president’s message says. “As a sign of grief, I, along with all his fans, bow before a man with a soul of unique beauty and outstanding talent. The bright memory of Vakhtang Kikabidze will forever remain in the hearts of Ukrainians.”

In addition, Tkachenko addressed the audience in Georgian.

“During the Russian-Ukrainian war, when soldiers, rescuers, doctors, artists die in our country, they say that heroes do not die. This fully applies to Vakhtang Kikabidze. Heroes do not die, blessed memory to them,” said the Ukrainian minister.

A farewell letter to the funeral of the Georgian actor was written by Azerbaijani singer and composer Polad Bul-Bul ogly.

“I was lucky enough not only to perform on the same stage with him, but also to be friends for many years. Such unconditional love of several generations is not given to everyone. He was a man with an incredibly generous, sunny talent. His work has always been highly valued in Azerbaijan, and his personality was treated with great respect and love. “You have to be a citizen, and then an artist” - these words fully reflect the essence of the great Vakhtang Kikabidze. He was real, unlike anyone else, and until the last minutes of his life, he was a son of his homeland, a man who kept his word, who had concepts of honor and dignity. Farewell, Vakhtang, may you rest in peace, great man, Friend, artist, singer and favorite of millions. I am sure that if there were more people like Vakhtang in this world, this world would be much kinder, nobler and more honest,” says Bul-Bul ogly’s letter.

According to the will, Vakhtang Kikabidze was buried at the Veriysky cemetery in Tbilisi, next to the graves of his mother and wife.
