In the US, they want to strip citizenship of immigrants who have committed a sex offense

The US Department of Justice on Tuesday filed claims to revoke American citizenship from five immigrants who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing minors. Writes Fox News, the crimes occurred before they were naturalized.

These people, according to the Department of Justice, "illegally obtained their US citizenship by hiding sexual abuse of underage victims in the naturalization process."

“Fraud in any immigration matter undermines the integrity of our immigration system and is a betrayal of the generosity of the American people,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement. “This is especially horrific when it comes to child sexual abuse.”

Claims were filed in the Southern District of Florida, the Northern District of Illinois, the Northern District of Texas and the Southern District of Texas.

According to the Department of Justice, naturalization of a US citizen can be revoked in accordance with the Immigration and Citizenship Act, if naturalization was illegally obtained by hiding information.

Among them:

• Jorge Luis Alvarado, 56, is a native of Mexico. Alvarado became a US citizen on March 9, 2000. In 2007, he pleaded guilty to sexual contact with a child, which occurred shortly before applying for naturalization, the Justice Department said.
• Alberto Mario Beleno, 64, is a native of Colombia. Beleno became a citizen on February 26, 2001. This year, he pleaded guilty to molesting a minor in 1993 and 1994.
• Eleazar Corral Valenzuela, 49, is a Mexican native. Valenzuela became a citizen on June 15, 2000. The Justice Department said he sexually abused a minor child before applying for naturalization. He pleaded guilty to the charges in 2000.
• Mois Herrera-Gonzalez, 55, is a native of Mexico. Herrera Gonzalez became a citizen on September 25, 1999. In 2002, he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a six-year-old child in 1996.
• Emmanuel Olugbenga Omoprariola, 60, is a native of Nigeria. Omoprariola became a citizen on July 1, 2004. In 2015, he pleaded guilty to sexual contact with a seven-year-old child prior to his naturalization.

The cases were transferred to the Department of Justice by the US Immigration and Customs Service (ICE) and the US Customs Service and the Border Guard, the department said.

“The Department of Justice has a responsibility to vigorously pursue these crimes, especially those who committed fraud in the naturalization process,” the statement said.
