In Oregon, a trainer neutralizes an armed student with hugs

A high school student from Portland, Oregon, came to school with a shotgun. The school's football coach walked up to him without hesitation and disarmed the teenager with a hug - a video of the incident was released by the State Attorney's Office.

The incident occurred on 17 in May at Parkrose High School, but the Multnomah County Prosecutor’s Office did not publish the video until 11 on October. USA Today. Personnel were released a few days after the completion of the trial.

Kinon Low, who works at the school as a football coach and security guard, became the hero of this school after the incident. The frames show how Low leaves the classroom with a shotgun in his hand with the student. Then they hug and Lowe passes the gun to another person who carries the weapon.

Low remembered how he stood in the classroom when a schoolboy came with a gun. Lowe said that he rushed to the shotgun and grabbed him while the students fled through another door.

“At that moment it was just us: me and this student. It was a very emotional moment,” Lowe said. “I felt compassion for him.” A lot of times in life, especially when you're young, you just don't know what you're doing until it's over."

Prosecutors say that Angel Granados Díaz, now 19 years old, brought a loaded shotgun to school. The teenager was in a condition that was later called a mental health crisis. On October 10, he pleaded guilty to the illegal possession of firearms and the intention to use it in public places.

He was sentenced to three years probation and undergoes a course of treatment. Attorney Parakram Singh said that during the investigation it turned out that Granados Dias intended to do harm only to himself.

Lowe explained that he had been called to the classroom to take one of the students to the school administrators, but he was not told the details. He was in class for less than a minute when a high school student with a shotgun entered.

“It’s a pretty crazy situation,” he said. “In a split second, I analyzed everything.” I saw the look on his face, I looked in his eyes, I looked at the gun, I knew it was a real gun, and then my instincts just took over.”

Lowe said that he grabbed the shotgun with both hands, and then turned him away from everyone while hugging the student. They went out together and the police arrived at the scene. Handcuffed and taken away to Granados Diaz.

“This is a story that usually ends in tragedy,” Lowe said. “By the will of God, everything ended well.” We made headlines, but it didn't turn out to be a disaster. I'm grateful for that."
