Representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora in New York organized a picket against a concert by Russian saxophonist Igor Butman, who signed a letter in 2014 in support of the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin in eastern Ukraine and the Crimea.
About it on the page on a social network Facebook wrote journalist Julia Gorodetskaya.
“His concerts over the next week will be held at Jazz at lincoln center, but apart from today, we decided to picket only on Friday and Saturday: it’s very cold, going to a rally every day after work is a great honor,” she wrote.
In addition, according to her, the organizers of the rally wrote to the leadership of the jazz department of Lincoln Center about the “indecency” of inviting such artists to a “civilized country.”
Gorodetskaya noted that the previous leadership of the center heard the appeals of the Ukrainian diaspora and did not invite to concerts Russian artists supporting the actions of the Kremlin in Ukraine.
But after the change in leadership, the situation changed. Despite Butman's planned concert, his poster was not posted at the center - the artist's name was indicated only in the general calendar on the website Lincoln Center.
