US: sanctions against Russia will act until she leaves the Crimea

The US State Department has announced that sanctions against Russia will be expanded and continue until it leaves the territory of the Ukrainian Crimea and does not fulfill the Minsk agreements.

This is stated in State Department explanation to new energy sanctions against the Kremlin.

The document says that the sanctions are imposed in accordance with legislation reflecting the consensus of the US Congress on containing the aggressive behavior of the Russian government.

“We continue to call on Russia to fulfill its obligations under the Minsk agreements, withdraw from the Crimean Peninsula and cease illegal cyber interference,” the statement said.

The United States also said that the country's partners would be involved in the implementation of the sanctions.

“We will work with our allies and partners to implement these sanctions to force the Russian government to pay and try to avoid unintended negative consequences for others,” the State Department said.

Russia occupied the Crimea in 2014, since then the United States and a number of other countries imposed sanctions against the Kremlin demanding the return of control over the peninsula of Ukraine.
