Ukraine demands from brother of ex-President of Georgia Saakashvili to leave the country

The brother of the former President of Georgia, the former head of the Odessa Regional State Administration, Mikhail Saakashvili, David must leave the territory of Ukraine, otherwise he will be forcibly expelled to Georgia by a court decision. About this in Facebook reports the State Migration Service of Ukraine.

“The grounds for David Saakashvili’s stay in Ukraine ended in April 2017, while information about the legal cancellation of David Saakashvili’s work permit and residence permit was disseminated on April 16 on social networks by his brother Mikheil. Immediately after the cancellation of the grounds for staying in Ukraine, this person was obliged to leave the territory of Ukraine, but this was not done, which is a manifestation of disrespect and a violation of Ukrainian legislation,” the message says.

According to the service, on September 2, “the violator was identified by employees of the National Police and taken to the migration service unit.”

“After clarifying all the circumstances of the person’s stay on the territory of Ukraine and providing them with explanations, the migration service employees lawfully made a decision on forced return. According to the law and the decision made, the violator must leave the territory of Ukraine, that is, go to any country in the world, otherwise, by a court decision, he can be forcibly expelled to his country of citizenship,” the State Migration Service said.

A few hours earlier, Mikheil Saakashvili announced the detention of his brother David in Kyiv. The ex-president of Georgia noted that his brother had a “permit to reside in Ukraine.” He suggested that in this way the Ukrainian authorities are trying to influence him so that Mikhail will change his mind about returning to Ukraine.

“David is Misha’s youngest and only brother, on his father’s side. This is the son of his father, a well-known doctor in Tbilisi, Nikoloz Saakashvili, from his second marriage (he left for another family before Misha was born). Mikhail and the stepbrothers were not particularly close. After Maidan and Saakashvili’s appointment as governor, he went to live in Ukraine,” said "Country" Georgian journalist Medea Kavelashvili.

Recall 26 July 2017, Poroshenko signed a decree on the loss of Saakashvili’s Ukrainian citizenship. It was reported that the ex-president of Georgia was deprived of his citizenship due to the fact that when filling in the relevant documents for his receipt in 2015, he did not provide information on criminal cases opened against him by the current Georgian authorities.

Saakashvili said he intends to return to Ukraine across the Polish border 10 in September 2017.
