In Kiev, one of the streets will be named in honor of the late Senator McCain

President Petro Poroshenko said that one of the streets of Kiev will be renamed in honor of the late US senator from the Republican Party, head of the Armed Forces Committee John McCain.

This is stated in the press service of the President following his meeting with the widow of Senator Cindy McCain, who located in Ukraine as part of the observation mission International Republican Institute, reports “Ukrainian News«.

“Petro Poroshenko informed Cindy McCain that in the near future one of the streets of Kyiv will be named after Senator John McCain, a great friend and lawyer of Ukraine,” it says.

Poroshenko also noted the historical importance of the legacy of Senator McCain in the formation and development of the new independent Ukraine.

In addition, considerable attention during the meeting was paid to the ongoing presidential elections in Ukraine.

During the meeting, a high assessment was given to the fact that the first round of elections was held freely and honestly, and Ukraine demonstrated high standards for the election race and political competition.

During the meeting, the fundamental importance of the immutability and consistency of the course of reforms and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine, as well as the firm international support of Ukraine in the matter of internal transformations and the restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity, was noted.

Recall that the widow of McCain led the mission 31 March 2019 observers at the presidential elections in Ukraine, and said she understands the attitude towards Ukraine of her late husband.

US Senator John McCain departed the life of 25 August 2018 of the year. at the age of 81. In the last years of his life, he struggled with incurable brain cancer.
