Senator McCain's Farewell Words Published
US Senator John McCain, who died on Saturday, made a final appeal to US citizens, in which he allegedly criticized Donald Trump.
The senator said that the country's greatness is weakened when she tries to hide behind the walls instead of bringing them down, writes RIA News. The politician may have meant the construction of a wall on the border with Mexico to combat migrants, without mentioning the name of the American leader.
In addition, in his message, McCain thanks Americans "for the honor of serving them and for the life that he was able to afford through his years in the military and politics."
“I have tried to serve our country with honor. I made mistakes, but I hope that my love for America will outweigh them,” the politician wrote.
The parliamentarian also claims that the United States “more than anyone else in history, has helped many people free themselves from tyranny and poverty.”
“We are citizens of the greatest country in the world, a nation of ideals. We are blessed and bring blessings to humanity when we uphold our ideals here and around the planet,” he said.
Arizona Senator John McCain died at the age of 81, from brain cancer diagnosed about a year ago. His funeral will be held on the second of September in Annapolis, the capital of Maryland. Earlier it became known that he refused treatment because of the irreversible development of the disease.
Trump and McCain relationship
Trump and McCain are both Republicans, however they have always been political opponents and did not hide their mutual antipathy.
The senator has repeatedly criticized the president for his policies. In particular, he was an ardent opponent of “soft” relations with Moscow. McCain recently called the meeting of the American leader with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki a mistake.
Trump, in turn, did not highly value the military merits of his party comrade. He owns the phrase: “McCain is a hero because he was captured? I prefer those who were not captured.”
