California to ban the sale of new gasoline cars

Gasoline cars will be officially banned in California. This is the first announcement of its kind in the US and a major step towards the goal of zero emissions into the atmosphere. Independent.

Californians will not be able to buy new gasoline-powered cars as early as 2035.

A rule issued by the California Air Resources Board requires all new vehicles in the state to be fossil-free by this year.

"This is a huge step forward," said Margot Oge, an electric vehicle expert who oversaw the EPA's vehicle emissions programs under the Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama administrations.

“California will now be the only government in the world that requires everyone to buy zero emission cars. It's unique," she remarked.

As California Gov. Gavin Newsom said, this shows that "California continues to lead."

California has the largest car market in the US and has paved the way with ambitious legislation to address the climate crisis.

At least five states may implement a similar ban on gasoline-powered vehicles within the next year.

Currently, only 6% of cars sold in the US are electric, with the country trailing some European countries and China in market share.

In 2021, US President Joe Biden signed an executive order requiring half of all new cars sold in the US to be zero-emission by 2030.

The recently passed Inflation Reduction Act will, among other things, provide tax incentives to support the purchase of electric vehicles.

According to a number of independent studies, the law is expected to reduce the US domestic carbon footprint by 2030% by 40.
