The number of Syrian refugees who came to the United States more than doubled in June compared with the previous month, bringing President Obama closer to his goal of resettling 10 000 refugees in the country by the end of the fiscal year (October 1).
According to the US Department of State Registration and Distribution Center, 2 381 Syrian arrived in the country last month. They were settled in 38 states: most were adopted by Michigan (570), California (500), Arizona (388), Illinois (343), Pennsylvania (340), Texas (321) and Florida (301).
In order to accomplish the task set by the administration, the US needs to take another 4 814 Syrian refugees over the next three months.
