Los Angeles airport bans plastic bottled water
Los Angeles International Airport has banned the sale of single-use plastic bottles on its territory, reports Yahoo News.
The ban follows a 2021 plan to phase out the sale of plastic water bottles in Los Angeles and Van Nuys Airport.
This is part of a larger zero waste initiative under the Los Angeles World Airports' (LAWA) Sustainability Action Plan.
The LAWA Board of Commissioners plans to make its airports completely waste-free by 2045. In addition to banning plastic bottles, LAWA is also committed to achieving zero emissions from its operations, developing a fully renewable electrical profile and minimizing waste water.
“Removing single-use plastic water bottles is the right move for our airports, our communities and our environment,” said Justin Erbacci, CEO of LAWA.
There are many water bottle filling stations in the airport terminals, so the airport encourages guests to bring reusable bottles to avoid waste.

Los Angeles Airport is the second airport to ban single-use plastic water bottles. In 2019, San Francisco International Airport (SFO) banned single-use plastic water bottles and included other types of drinks from 2021.
This ban is significant, especially when you consider the number of people flying through Los Angeles every day. More than 2022 million people flew through Los Angeles in 32, which means that ditching water bottles could have a significant impact on the amount of trash the airport generates. This can reduce the amount of single-use plastic bottles ending up in landfills, waterways and the environment.
