Round the world cruise for 2 years: life on the liner can be cheaper than rent and mortgage

There is a new tempting opportunity to live on a cruise ship, traveling the world. Victoria Cruise Line's new cruise could be more affordable than rent or mortgage, reports Fox35.

"We're excited!" Barbara Violetta said. Violetta is a retiree from The Villages and she's crazy about cruising. She has been on over 70 cruises.

But now she is preparing for the journey of a lifetime. “This is a dream come true,” she said.

She will go on a two-year cruise with the Victoria Cruise Line: 214 ports in 115 countries on seven continents.

The vessel has a length of more than 220 m and a width of about 30 m. There will be 1000 passengers on board.

Passengers aboard the Victoria Cruise Line are made up of retirees and digital nomads — those who can work from home, even if that home is floating.

“Anyone who works from home says it has to be a house on land? Why can't he be at sea?" Violetta said.

How much does such a trip cost

“Those with an inside cabin will pay about $2400 per month per person,” said Valerie Linderoth, Victoria Cruises brand ambassador. “It’s actually quite affordable.”

While the price of $2400 per month may seem unacceptable at first, there are other factors to consider.

Monthly rent includes cooked meals, TV, Wi-Fi, gym, pool, spa and access to doctors, nurses and dentist on board.

“They wash your clothes three times a week! - said Violetta. — Free laundry is done for us. No cleaning. Not making the bed. Even turndown service is done every day.”

The price of $2400 is for one person in the inner cabin if you sign up for the 37 month optionwhich offers the biggest discount.

But if you choose 24 month option, it will cost you $5.

Option on 12 months costs $5759 per month.

Whichever option you choose, being away from home is tough, which is why Victoria Cruises allows passengers to take a break and pay as little as 30% of their rent while they're away.

“I need to take a break. My daughter is planning a wedding next year,” Violetta said.

Some passengers have said they plan to extend their stay indefinitely.

“We have quite a few people – about 70% – who choose the 37+ option. Many of them say: “I will stay on this ship until the day I die,” Linderoth said.
