Ukrainian community in the US asks to sign a petition calling for the White House to help in the release of Sentsov

The White House website has appeared petition with a call for the American government to use all the levers for the release of Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov, imprisoned in Russia, writes New time.

She must collect 100 thousand votes before September 8 for the US Presidential Administration to consider.

As of Saturday evening, 814 votes have been collected.

“The European Parliament has already appealed to Vladimir Putin with a request to immediately release Oleg Sentsov and others. Now it's time for America to have its say. We call on our government to take a strong position on this issue and use all levers to demand the immediate release of Oleg Sentsov and other Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia,” the petition says.

Earlier, Sentsov’s lawyer Dmitry Dinze reported that the director may soon begin a fourth hunger strike crisis, accompanied by a failure of internal organs.

According to him, the third crisis of the hunger strike, which the Ukrainian is currently experiencing, is dangerous because the authorities are beginning to gradually prepare for refusal, the person becomes ill.

“The onset of the fourth crisis depends on the individual characteristics of the organism. It could happen tomorrow, or in a week, or in a month,” the lawyer noted.

Forced feeding cannot be called a saving solution for Sentsov, added the head of the advocacy center of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union Boris Zakharov.

“Forced feeding is equated by the European Court to torture and has a negative impact on a weakened body, despite the ingress of nutrients into it. Therefore, there is a very big question whether this is good or bad. Forced feeding is not a guarantee of saving Oleg Sentsov’s life,” Zakharov said.

Recall Oleg Sentsov Started the 14 hunger strike on May 2018. He demands the release of all Ukrainian political prisoners held by Russia.

The Ukrainian was detained by Russian security forces in the Crimea 11 May 2014. He was accused of allegedly preparing terrorist attacks on the peninsula during the occupation of Russia. Later, Sentsov was accused of possessing weapons and explosives.

5 August 2015, the North Caucasian District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Sentsov to 20 years of strict regime.
