Uber and Lyft promise drivers $ 2500 per month, but there are nuances
The online ad for this offer sounds tempting: a guaranteed income of 2500 dollars per month on Lyft and 2100 on Uber, which will be about 30 thousand dollars a year for part-time work. But in practice, everything is much sadder.
Firstly, as is often the case with advertising, there are a lot of conditions written in small print that make the offer not so attractive, notes USA Today. And second, a study released Tuesday shows that by accepting the offer, drivers end up earning less than they did four years ago.
More people are driving for Uber and Lyft on American roads, and with "rapid growth in the number of drivers has come a steady decline in average monthly earnings," says the JP Morgan Chase & Co. Institute.
According to the study, profits for those working in the field of online transportation in the period from 2013 to 2017 year fell by 53%, stopping at an average of $ 783 per month in 2017 year against $ 1469 in 2013 year. This, of course, is far from 2500 dollars per month.
As Lyft says, in order to earn 2500 dollars every month, drivers need to earn at least 625 dollars a week, and if they can't get this amount from passengers, the company will make up the difference. The requirements are that you need to get started at 5 in the morning, take 90% of available calls, drive at least 30 hours per week and do at least 65 trips.
According to Uber, 2100 dollars concern only the first 200 trips, and future revenues are “not guaranteed.” These 200 trips must be completed within 90 days. And the guarantee is given only for the total profit minus Uber payments.
Meanwhile, DoorDash food delivery service says that drivers can earn $ 1750, but after two months and with the delivery of 60 dishes. As Rideshareapps.com points out, drivers are also responsible for fuel, maintenance and taxes.
