In New York, launched an application for the yellow taxi, working on the system Uber

The New York Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) has approved a new smartphone application - Waave. It is intended for the city's yellow and green taxis and will allow users to see the cost of the trip, the car's arrival time and the preliminary route time before they make the trip, writes Curbed.

According to the authors of the program, the Waave app was created by “New Yorkers for New Yorkers” and is the first application that provides the same services as Uber and Lyft. Now the application is working in test mode, but all the inhabitants of New-Yopka will be able to use the Waave already with the next week.

The application operates under a two-year pilot program and appeared after the city council decided to limit the number of rental cars on the city streets, in particular Uber and Lyft were subject to the restriction - the city stopped issuing new licenses to these carriers. The new changes will introduce restrictions for one year, except for vehicles that are wheelchair accessible.

“The increase in the number of cars on New York City streets has slowed traffic in many places and increased carbon emissions, while also worsening the living standards of the middle-class taxi drivers who have kept the city moving for decades. Our goal is for New Yorkers who care about their city, including the things that make it unique like yellow cabs, to join Waave,” said Waave app CEO Daniel Iger.

It is noted that $ 0,50 from each trip by taxi will be transferred to the transit system MTA, and another $ 0,30 will be sent to the Taxi Improvement Fund, which aims to increase the number of vehicles equipped with wheelchair access.
