'We have a chance': what Trump talked about, congratulating Bibi on winning the election

US President Donald Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday to congratulate him on his victory in the parliamentary elections, reports “Columnist«.

“Netanyahu thanked Trump for his support for Israel, including recognition of Jerusalem and the Golan Heights (by Israel - Ed.), and for his tough stance on Iran,” the statement said.

The leaders of the two countries also discussed bilateral relations. Trump called Netanyahu while on Air Force One. He's heading from Washington to Texas. Earlier, speaking to reporters before departure, he said that “Bibi’s victory is a good sign for the world.”

“Everyone said there could be no peace in the Middle East between Israel and the Palestinians, but I think we have a chance. I think that with Bibi’s victory our chances (for a peaceful settlement - Ed.) are higher,” Trump said.

The leaders of the opposition political alliance Blue and White, Benny Gantz and Yair Lapid, admitted defeat in the parliamentary elections in Israel.

The opposition promised to continue the struggle for power in Israel.

Elections in Israel took place April 9. After counting almost 98% of the votes, the bloc of right-wing parties receives 65 seats in the Knesset out of a possible 120. At the same time, the main competing parties - Prime Minister Netanyahu's ruling right-wing Likud party and the opposition left-wing Blue and White alliance - receive an equal number of seats: 35 each seats for each party.

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin said earlier that he would begin consultations with factions next week on the formation of a coalition.
