Legendary Israeli intelligence officer who arrested Holocaust 'architect' dies
On March 23, Rafael (Rafi) Eitan, the leader of the Israeli spy team that 59 years ago tracked down, identified and arrested the mastermind, or “architect” of the Holocaust, Adolf Eichmann, passed away.

On the death of 92-year-old Eitan officially announced the Tel Aviv hospital, writes Fox News with reference to the Times of Israel.
“Rafi was one of the heroes of the intelligence service of the State of Israel in countless actions for the security of Israel,” said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “His wisdom, wit and endless commitment to the people of Israel and our country were unmatched.”
In the Gestapo, Adolf Eichmann was responsible for "the final solution of the Jewish question." He fled Europe after World War II and lived in Argentina under an assumed name, but Israeli agents found out about his whereabouts. 11 May 1960, the Eitan team from the Mossad conducted a brilliant special operation and literally stole Eichmann from the street, leaving him in the car and instantly hiding.
In the car, Eitan confirmed Eichmann’s identity by tearing the man’s sleeve to check for a scar on his left hand, and pulling his shirt off to find a scar on his stomach, wrote in 2011, Leland Witter of Fox News.
“At that moment, when Eichmann was in my arms, on my knees, I repeated to myself the song of the Jewish partisans, which ends with the words “We are here and we will return,” Eitan told Vittert.

In the end, the man admitted that he is Adolf Eichmann. Eitan and his paratroopers took the Nazi criminal from Argentina and brought him to Israel, where he was tried, convicted and sentenced to death by hanging. 1 June 1962, the sentence was carried out.
When several years ago the participants of that operation met again, Eitan remembered with a twinkle in his eyes how he had detained this man.
“I was 51 years younger,” he said, “but I am capable and willing to do the same thing again.”
