Thousands of evacuated from New Mexico to Alaska: large-scale forest fires swept the western United States
Thousands of people are forced to evacuate because more than three dozen forest fires are burning in the western United States, from New Mexico to Alaska, writes ABC News.
The most affected areas are in Arizona, where a Bighorn Fire near Tucson has grown to 31 acres (208 ha) and is localized to 12%. Because of this fire, at least 629 houses had to be evacuated.

Bush Bush, raging near Phoenix, captured 114 acres (941 ha) and is localized at only 46%.
In northern Arizona, the Mangum Fire led to evacuation, covering 54 acres (845 ha). It is localized at 22%.

Evacuations take place near Durango, Colorado, where the East Canyon Fire covered 2764 acres (1118 ha). Its localization is 0%.
The Walker Fire near Sacramento, California, spread to 1455 acres (589 ha) and is localized to 70%.

The good news is that the wind is weakening throughout the region. However, in some places gusts are still possible at a speed of 20 to 30 miles per hour (32-48 km / h).
But since the wind is weakening, and high pressure spreads to the southwest, the temperature will rise by the end of the weekend (June 20 and 21) and next week, after June 22.

Severe thunderstorms are expected in West Texas and Oklahoma on June 19, with devastating winds and strong hail present the greatest threat.
This frontal storm system will persist across the central US through the weekend. More severe weather is possible from Texas to Illinois on Saturday and Sunday June 20th and 21st.
