Trump has threatened to cut financial assistance to countries voting against his decision on Jerusalem

US President Donald Trump threatened to cut US financial assistance to any country voting for a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly condemning his recent decision to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

He made this statement at the December 20 Cabinet meeting, writes New York Times.

“All these nations that take our money and then vote against us in the Security Council or in a meeting, they take hundreds of millions of dollars, billions of dollars, and then they vote against us. Okay, we're following these voices. Let them vote against us and we will save a lot. We don't care," Trump said.

He added that these countries are trying to “use the United States,” but the American government will not allow it.

If Trump embodies his threat, it will mean cuts in financial support to strategic partners. According to the Congressional Research Service, the States provided 77,4 billion in financial aid to Egypt from 1948 to 2016 a year, including annual military aid of $ 1,3 billion from 1987 a year.

December 21 at the UN General Assembly will be put to a vote a resolution condemning the recognition of the States of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

December 18 voting for a similar resolution failed in the Security Council. The document was supported by 14 of 15 Council members, but United States used the right of veto permanent member. The General Assembly has 193 members, and most of them are expected to oppose the US decision.

Recall 6 December, US President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and urged the State Department to begin the process of moving the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
