The leader of the organization Moms Demand Action in Tallahasia, Katie Kiel stated that the Florida legislature should solve the epidemic of gun violence.

“We are tired of the inaction of our elected political leaders. This is not a partisan issue. There is room for compromise solutions,” she said.

The 19-year-old suspect in the shooting at Parkland fired from semi-automatic assault weapons and was armed with several ammunition stores.

“These weapons are designed for war, and that is why they are often chosen for mass murder. It should not be in the hands of civilians,” said MDA member Carlos Guillermo Smith.

Smith remembers shooting at a nightclub Pulse which occurred in the 2016 year, where 49 people died. Smith submitted a law to ban weapons to lawmakers. The draft law cannot pass through a committee, which is the first step to consider a legislative initiative.

The bill is stuck in the Senate, while lawmakers promise to pray for the dead.

“Many of us are people of faith. We certainly support everyone who wants to pray. But you can have prayers and you can have legislation,” Keele said.

The MDA does not think that Florida will tighten the rules on carrying weapons this year. After the mass execution, neither the Senate nor the Governor showed proper interest in the issue of carrying weapons.

Lawmakers intend to invest more money in “tightening” the rules of safety in schools and monitoring mental health, but they say nothing about a ban on carrying weapons or more careful checking of personal data and other rules.

“I am asking all of my colleagues to support a $100 million budget for mental health screening, counseling and training, and strengthening the safety of our schools,” said Senator Bill Galvano.

Recall that February 14 in high school in Parkland, Florida, was shot, as a result of which at least 17 people were killed and several injured. It is reported that first the attacker triggered a fire alarm that caused a panic at school, and then opened fire on the people running.

The shooter was a former student of this school. 19-year-old Nicholas Cruz. The motives of the shooter are currently not established, but it is known that he had previously been expelled from this educational institution for disciplinary reasons, calling it a “threat” to students. A young man who was adopted at birth by an elderly couple, has recently suffered from depression. His father died when the boy was still young, and his mother was buried just 3 a month ago.
