The US plans to restart peace talks with Russia on the situation in Ukraine, although a month ago 2 called the problem “Europe’s responsibility” a month ago and did not want to be involved in the negotiation process.

US President Donald Trump during the March meeting in Washington with German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that Europe is responsible for the situation in Ukraine and the United States will not take an active part in resolving it.
But by the end of May, the Trump administration changed course and plans to become “substantially” involved in resolving the conflict in Ukraine, according to sources.
Thus, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson expects to use the Ukrainian question as an impetus to improve US-Russian relations, which was included in Trump's plans even during the election campaign. Tillerson's idea is to restart the version of the peace talks that the Barack Obama administration was engaged with in the 2016 year, in the hope that new circumstances and people could lead to better results.
According to sources, Tillerson discussed further actions on Ukraine with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Tillerson plans to appoint a special envoy from the State Department to manage the new efforts to resolve the situation in Ukraine, who will interact with the Assistant President of Russia Vladislav Surkov.
Also in the matter of resolving the situation in Ukraine, Vice President of the United States Michael Pence may be involved.
Former US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst does not rule out that Trump could use the threat or even use of new sanctions as a lever of pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to push him to concessions.
