“As co-chairs of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, we strongly condemn Russia's dangerous naval attack on Ukrainian ships,” the statement said. “This episode, as well as Russia’s blockade of Ukrainian ports, causes deep concern and is a manifestation of Russian aggression aimed at increasing bloody pressure and the illegal occupation of Crimea.”

Congressmen called on Russia not to restrict access to Ukrainian ports.

“We join the international community and NATO allies in strongly reaffirming the fact that Crimea and its coastal waters belong to Ukraine. We call on the Russian authorities, in accordance with international law, to stop any restrictions on access to Ukrainian ports and the Sea of ​​Azov. Russia must stop the bloody and unjust occupation of the sovereign territory of Ukraine,” the congressmen noted.

Let us remember that Trump remained silent for a long time and only on Monday evening commented on the incident in the Kerch Strait, telling reporters leaving the White House: “We don’t like what’s happening. Let’s hope everything will work out.”

Following the comments of Trump, a statement about the conflict in the Kerch Strait was published by State Secretary Mike Pompeo.

“The United States expresses deep concern about the incident that occurred in the Black Sea on November 25, when Ukrainian ships attempted to pass through the Kerch Strait,” Pompeo said. According to him, reports that Russian ships opened fire on Ukrainian ships and rammed them indicate a “dangerous escalation and violation of international law.”

“The United States condemns Russia’s aggressive actions. We call for the return of the ships to Ukraine and the release of detained crew members, as well as respect for the sovereignty of Ukraine and its territorial integrity within international borders, including territorial waters,” Pompeo said in a statement, recalling that the United States does not recognize Russia’s attempts to annex Crimea.

Recall that after the November 25 incident, when ship of the Russian Federation rammed a tug of Naval Forces of Ukraine at the exit from the Kerch Strait, Russia used weapons against the ships of the Ukrainian Navy, capturing three vessels. On board there are at least six wounded, 23 Ukrainians have become Russian prisoners of war.

In connection with the incident on the evening of November 25, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko convened an emergency meeting of the National Security and Defense Council.

Military situation in Ukraine will earn from nine in the morning on November 28 and will be valid for 30 days. At the time of the special legal status in the state will not announce either full or partial mobilization, said President Petro Poroshenko.
