Schwarzenegger was detained for several hours at a German airport: he was trying to bring expensive watches into the country

At Munich airport, police detained Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger during a customs inspection on January 17, reports NewsSky.

The 76-year-old actor and politician flew to the capital of Bavaria - from there he planned to go to Kitzbühel, Austria, where the World Climate Summit is taking place.

The movie star was not released from the airport police for several hours. Problems arose due to the fact that Schwarzenegger was found in possession of a luxury undeclared watch from the Swiss company Audemars Piguet.

The actor claims that he wanted to sell them at auction.

The 76-year-old actor's nonprofit organization, the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative, said the actor planned to auction off the watch to benefit climate initiatives.

A black ceramic watch with Schwarzenegger as the Terminator on the back was expected to fetch at least $50 at auction.

The collectible was made exclusively for him.

“He sits with us, it’s true. If the goods remain in the EU, you must pay tax and duty on them. This concerns everyone,” said a Munich customs representative during the actor’s three-hour detention.

The Terminator star was eventually able to continue his journey on January 17 and was allowed to take the watch with him, according to a customs official.

The actor had to pay a fine of several thousand euros to be released.

“He always cooperated, even though it was an incompetent investigation, a comedy of errors. This would make a very funny cop movie,” said a spokesman for the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative.

“Arnold Schwarzenegger, of course, immediately agreed to pay customs duties on his personal watch, think about it,” the representative added. “We hope that Germany will put as much energy into reorganizing its economy and making it greener as it puts into collecting customs duties.”

A customs spokesman said the case against Schwarzenegger will now be transferred to the criminal and fines department in Augsburg, a city west of Munich.

The actor also planned to attend the Hahnenkamm ski race in the village of Kitzbühel in the Austrian Alps.
