Next year, there may be more holiday showcases. So, in Neiman Marcus announced that by March they will open a new store in Manhattan, Nordstrom plans to present its flagship store this fall.
The flagship Lord & Taylor, a staple of New York stores since it opened in 1914, will no longer be decorating holiday windows in 2019. The store is preparing to close this season. This is the grim reality that department stores face as they try to adapt to the era of e-commerce, discount retailers and mass market sellers. While they are reconfiguring store formats, adding services, and acquiring hot startups to attract customers, many have failed to keep up with the race. Sears and Bon-Ton were among the bankrupt chains this year alone.
