Russians warned of an outbreak of a dangerous disease in the US

In Russia on the site Rospotrebnadzor - the body responsible for protecting consumer rights and their well-being - issued a warning about the outbreak of infection in the United States and preventive measures when preparing salads.

In its warning, Rospotrebnadzor cites data from the US Illinois Department of Health, which states that since mid-May this year as of the first decade of July, more 100 cases of cyclosporosis have been reported among residents of Illinois and Iowa chain restaurants McDonald's.

The investigation into the situation is currently ongoing. It is noted that “restaurant management is actively cooperating with health officials and the Center for Food and Drug Control; more than 3 thousand establishments in 14 states have stopped selling suspicious salads.”

According to information with reference to the Center for Infectious Diseases Control of the United States (CDC), since June of this year, more than 200 cases of cyclosporosis, which is associated with Del Monte vegetables, are under investigation. Victims ate broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and dill from this producer. However, at present, McDonald's has not established a relationship with Del Monte.

Rospotrebnadzor draws the attention of citizens and requests that this information be taken into account when planning trips.

Cyclosporiasis is a parasitic disease caused by the protozoan organism Cyclospora cayetanensis with a complex development cycle. Cyclospora are intracellular parasites that infect the small intestine. The main symptoms include watery diarrhea, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, flatulence and a feeling of fullness in the abdomen, in some cases abdominal pain and muscle pain. Many patients lose weight. Currently, cyclospora has been found only in humans, however, the epidemiology of this disease has not been sufficiently studied.

Isolation of the pathogen occurs with feces. Infection is associated with the consumption of infected water, raw milk and food, including vegetables.

In order not to get sick with cyclosporosis, you must follow a number of rules:

- choose to eat only fresh vegetables and greens, not to buy them in places of unauthorized trade;

- before eating vegetables and greens thoroughly wash and rinse with boiling water;

- before preparing salads, wash hands thoroughly with detergent;

- to make salads, use a specially selected knife and a separate cutting board;

- fill salads just before serving;

- make salads in small quantities, so as not to leave for storage in finished form.

Remember that you can not engage in cooking in the presence of signs of intestinal disorders.

If symptoms appear, seek medical attention immediately.
