Georgian prosecutor's office accused Saakashvili of involvement in the murder of a businessman

The Georgian prosecutor’s office said it had uncovered participants in the murder of Russian and Georgian businessman Badri Patarkatsishvili.

According to investigators, the former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili was involved in it, writes “Новая газета".

The statement of the department says that the former head of the first service of the second department of the main department of the Department of Constitutional Security (CST), Tbilisi G.M.

Two other defendants in the case - the former deputy head of the second main department L. K. and the head of the second service department R. Sh. - were charged.

During the search in the house of one of the accused, security officials found a recording device. The examination found that two records dated 4 and February 5 2017 of the year concerned the preparation of Patarkatsishvili’s murder.

“In the conversation, G.D. confirms that the issue of preparing the murder was sanctioned by the then President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, since Badri Patarkatsishvili was their political opponent and fierce enemy of the authorities,” follows from the first entry.

On the second record, the CST staff discussed ways to eliminate a businessman, including poisoning with a substance that would cause a natural death effect. According to the prosecutor’s office, these issues were coordinated with Dat Akhalai, the former head of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs Department.

Badri Patarkatsishvili passed away on 12 February 2008, in his villa near London. According to the doctors, this was due to a heart attack. After the death of the police, the UK began an investigation into the causes of death of a businessman.

Earlier in the 2006 year, Patarkatsishvili began to criticize Saakashvili. Shortly before his death, the entrepreneur engaged in political activities: he nominated his candidacy for the presidential elections in Georgia, announcing the creation of an opposition party, and took third place in them.
