Prigozhin believes that a revolution will soon begin in Russia due to failures in the war with Ukraine

A new "revolution" could shock Russia if its volatile military operations in Ukraine continue, the head of the Wagner private military group has said. Yevgeny Prigozhin said in an interview with pro-Russian blogger Konstantin Dolgov that Moscow's troops are not ready to resist forces loyal to Kyiv, even when they enter Russian territory.

In addition, he praised the capabilities of the Ukrainian army and urged Moscow to intensify its military actions if it wants to avoid a long and costly conflict.

“I believe that Ukrainians today are one of the strongest armies in the world,” Prigozhin said.

He observed that the Kyiv forces were “highly organized, well trained, with intelligence at the highest level; they can manage with equal success any military system, Soviet or NATO.”

In recent days, Moscow has been a little shocked when a group of anti-Putin Russians began hostilities in the Belgorod region (an area on the border with Ukraine). Such actions have caused anger and confusion among influential Russian military analysts. Asked about the incident, Prigozhin said the Russian defense forces were “absolutely not prepared to resist them in any form.”

“In the midst of war, groups of the Russian Volunteer Corps enter without much effort and cross the border in tanks and armored personnel carriers without any consequences and shoot their videos,” said the head of the Wagner PMC.

Prigozhin has often criticized the traditional Russian military hierarchy in an effort to win power struggles with warlords to lead Putin's war in eastern Ukraine. Earlier this month, he blamed Russia's defense chiefs for "tens of thousands" of Wagner casualties due to lack of ammunition.

But his comments to Dolgov were unsettling even for Putin's free-thinking ally. Prigozhin urges Moscow to step up the war to defeat Ukraine, that is, Putin needs to "declare martial law and a new wave of mobilization."

He warned that if Russian casualties continued to mount, "all these disagreements could end in a revolution, like in 1917."

“The soldiers will stand up first, and then their loved ones. It is wrong to think that there are hundreds of them—there are already tens of thousands of them—relatives of the victims,” he emphasized. “And there will probably be hundreds of thousands—we can’t avoid that.”

Russian forces, mostly Wagner PMC troops, have been working for months to capture Bakhmut, a city of relatively minor strategic importance in eastern Ukraine. Russia has taken massive casualties - and its larger ground campaign has stalled since the successful Ukrainian counterattacks last fall.
