A teenager from Texas got behind the wheel of a school bus when the driver became ill

A high school student in Texas took over the management of the school bus when he noticed that the driver was ill, writes Fox News.

There were six La Grange High School students on the school bus when something happened to the driver - the bus began to “sway” from side to side. Carson Vega was the first to notice.

“He missed the turn and drove down the street. Then he had to come back, that’s when I thought something was wrong,” said the 13-year-old hero.

Carson quickly responded and called 911 for help. Kyler Buzchek, another high school student, helped Carson reassure other students on the bus.

“I went to calm the little children. I told them to go to the back of the bus because they were sitting there crying,” Carson recalled.

According to FOX7, Carson turned on his hazard lights, sat on the driver's lap and drove the bus about 3 miles from Highway 71 to a stop at the Colorado River Bridge while Cuyler remained on the phone with police.

Carson's mother, Amber Vega, told FOX7 that she was proud of her son for remaining calm throughout the entire incident. She added that the mere thought of what could have happened if the guys hadn’t taken the situation into their own hands made her shiver.

“We all would have died because it swerved too much and we would have fallen off the hill into the river,” Carson said.

Interestingly, Carson does not usually take the bus home, but that Thursday her mother could not pick him up.

The driver was taken to the hospital. It is not yet known what exactly happened, however FOX7 writes that everything will be fine with him.
