The pilot-heroine who landed the Southwest plane after the explosion of the engine turned out to be on a flight by accident

Pilot Tammy Joe Schultz, who safely landed a Southwest Airlines plane after an engine explosion and cabin depressurization, was not originally supposed to fly this flight.

The tragic 17 flight of April was to be piloted by husband Schulz Dean, who also works in Southwest Airlines, but he suggested that his wife swap flights so that she could attend athletics competitions in which her son participated, writes The New York Post.

"Dean is an amazing husband, he said, 'You go to the competition and I'll pick up your flight.' And that's why I was on that plane. I traded this flight with my husband, and I don’t trade with him anymore,” the woman admitted.

Recall the left engine of the aircraft Southwest Airlinesoperated flight No.1380 from New York to Dallas, exploded in the air at an altitude of about 10 thousand meters, its fragments damaged the plane's body, which led to depressurization of the cabin. The fragments from the explosion smashed the window - and the woman sitting next to it - Jennifer Riordan - was partially pulled out into the street by the air flow, but other passengers managed to drag her back into the cabin. She later died from her injuries, and 7 other passengers were injured in the incident. The plane made a safe emergency landing at Philadelphia Airport to the delight of passengers who praised the skill of the pilot, who was Tammy Jo Schultz.
