A couple from Hawaii suspected of having links with the KGB: they were given photos

A Hawaiian couple accused by federal authorities of stealing the identities of deceased babies decades ago may have had ties to the former Soviet Union intelligence agency, the KGB. The edition told in more detail New York Post.

US military contractor Walter Primrose and his wife Gwynn Morrison are accused of living under the names of babies who were less than a year old when they died. Their fictitious names were those of Bobby's children Edward Fort and Julie Lyn Montague.

Primrose, who served in the US Coast Guard for decades, used a false identity to obtain documents such as a driver's license, passport, and Department of Defense data that allowed him to secure a secret security clearance in the Army and then as a defense contractor.

The couple, who are in their 60s, are still charged with aggravated identity theft, conspiracy to commit a crime against the United States and false passport applications.

Federal prosecutors want the couple to be held without bail, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Mulek said both detainees were wearing KGB uniforms in old photographs.

According to him, "close associate" Morrison said that she lived in Romania when she was in the bloc of socialist countries, which was in fact ruled by the leaders of the USSR.

Prosecutors argued that there was a high risk that the husband and wife would run away if they were not held in pre-trial detention, and observed that Primrose was very good at communicating secretly with associates. The couple had other possible aliases, according to the feds.

Primrose and Morrison were born in 1955 and went to high school and college together in Texas, according to court records, before marrying in 1980.

Court records don't explain why the couple posed as dead children in 1987, but one State Department special agent said in a sworn letter that the couple forfeited their Texas home that same year.

Primrose joined the Coast Guard when he was 39, although since he did so under the name Bobby Fort, he was thought to be 27 years old.

He worked as an avionics electrical technician until he retired in 2016, then worked for a defense contractor at a Coast Guard airfield in Honolulu.

The father of Julia Lyn Montagu, who died when she was 6 weeks old in 1968, was shocked that his daughter's name was used in a criminal scheme.

“I still can’t believe this happened,” complained 91-year-old John Montague. “May the children rest in peace.”
