Tim and Maggie Lott of Corning, New York, spent 18 years to make their Victorian mansion a cozy and welcoming home. Now for just 150 dollars and a five paragraph paragraph text this house can be yours.

"This house is now for someone else's dream," says Maggie Lott. The family plans to replace the 5-acre (2-hectare) farm with a 150-year-old Victorian mansion with a larger plot of land as their farming operation grows, writes Money. The house is located an hour southwest of Ithaca, New York, in the city of Corning.

The family organized a competition of sorts. Applicants must pay a $150 entry fee and write a five-paragraph essay explaining “what owning a 5-acre farm would mean for me, us and/or my family.”

The winner, who won the first place by the decision of the jury, will receive a farm and a mansion. According to data posted at CIRCA Old Houses, the building is a Victorian-style residential building of 3100 square feet (288 square meters), which is estimated at $ 175 000 on the competition website. The house has five bedrooms and three bathrooms. The property has the legal right to mining. Most of the house was recently renovated, the floors were changed in the dining room. But many original details (for example, oak railings) remain as part of the history of the mansion.

Lotte hopes that the Summerland Farm Essay Contest will collect at least 2500 applicants for 1 July 2019 for a total of 375 000 US dollars. Maggie Lott says that this amount would ideally allow the family to pay off the current mortgage, as well as buy a new farm and transport their animals there.

“This is a new beginning for us, giving a new start to someone else,” says the owner.

The competition will have three grand prizes: a house (plus $10 for taxes and other expenses) - first place; $000 - second; $1000 - third place. If the competition does not reach 500 entries, the $2500 entry fee - minus $150 - will be refunded to participants. Contest fees will be administered by a real estate attorney in accordance with the rules.
