The court sentenced oncologist Farid Fath from Detroit, Michigan, who made false diagnoses and imposed unnecessary and costly procedures on his patients, to 45 years in prison.

According to the investigation, from August 2007 to July 2013, the 50 year-old oncologist Farid Fata deceived at least 553 patients. Farid Fata admitted his guilt in 23 fraud cases of 553 presented to him. Many of the former patients and their relatives could not hold back their tears and curses when they testified during the hearing.

"I hate you. You are disgusting. You make me sick. You are a monster. You are evil. And it is obvious that you are a coward, because you cannot even look at me, ”said one of the victims, Laura Stadtefelt.

The woman is confident that Fata killed her father Pierre Marino Zanotti, prescribing him an overly intensive treatment for lung cancer, which the man simply could not stand.

According to the testimony, Fata prescribed chemotherapy and other equally harmful procedures to those who did not have cancer.

“Despite the fact that I am alive, I am only a shadow of who I was before. Many times I felt a burden. I should have known that I was prescribed the wrong treatment. I supported his practice with my treatment ... and he shortened my life. Having hurt me, he hurt my husband and my children, ”said Maggie Dorsey at the trial.

Some of the victims call themselves victims of the "Fat Holocaust" and consider the doctor responsible for "medical genocide."

“You are a cowardly bastard who does not care about the lives of others,” said one of the fraudster’s patients, Christopher Sniri, to whom the doctor imposed an unnecessary test on him to remove the testicle.

After the arrest of Fata in 2013, the federal government confiscated many of its assets and created a fund in the amount of $11,9 million to compensate the oncologist's victims for medical expenses. In total, $ 13 million of Fat assets was seized, but $ 1,1 million was paid to whistleblowers, who helped in apprehending the perpetrator.

The court hearing on the assignment of compensation to the victims took place on January 16, the judge refused the defendant the right to speak.
