New Yorkers are asked to name the ferry to Staten Island in honor of the Russian-speaking policeman.

New Yorkers created petition with a request to name the new ferry to Staten Island after Russel Timoshenko, a city police officer, a native of the Belarusian city of Bobruisk.

Ruslan's family moved to the US in 1993, when he was 9 years old. He studied well and after school entered the Polytechnic College to acquire an engineering degree. However, after some time, the young man suddenly changed his plans, entered the Police Academy and began working in the department of New York.

9 July 2007 patrol Russell Timoshenko and Herman Yang were shot in the cold during an inspection of a suspicious car in the Brooklyn region of Crown Heights. Yang survived, and Tymoshenko died of injuries in the hospital, after 5 days. He was just 23 of the year. Ruslan Tymoshenko was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

The young policeman's killers were detained after 2 of the day. The court sentenced them to life imprisonment.

Street in Staten Island was named after Ruslan - Russel Timoshenko Way (55 Durant Av. Staten Island). In the same area of ​​New York, a football field is named in memory of a policeman. Every year on July 9 exactly in 2: Ruslan's relatives and close friends gather at the place of his death.

“Belarusian immigrant Russell became a real representative of American citizens, giving his life for our beliefs and values. The name Staten Island ferry in his honor will show gratitude to the family and community of Staten Island who raised this hero. Let's make his memory eternal and show respect for those who serve and protect our freedom, ”the text of the petition says to name the ferry in his honor.
