The nanny broke her baby’s legs and now hopes to escape jail thanks to deportation
A nanny who did not have a license in the state of Utah told police that she was “more likely to be deported than sent to prison” after the child she was caring for was taken to hospital with two broken legs.
66-year-old Elvira Ortega is accused of child abuse. The Salt Lake City police reported that she threw the baby on the floor in the bathroom.
The court documents say that the boy, who is less than a year old, was under the care of Ortega when February 23 was injured.
His legs were reportedly broken below the knees.
Officer Greg Wilking said Fox Newsthat he cannot comment on her immigration status due to the internal rules of the department.
Wilking said Ortega cared for several children and did not have a license for it. Children were brought to her home in Salt Lake City, Fox 13 reported.
