Lukashenko: Russia offers Belarus to unite in exchange for oil prices
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the Russian leadership is hinting at Belarus joining in exchange for flat energy prices. Writes about this "Voice of America".
Lukashenko said this at a meeting with the team of Svetlogorsk pulp and paper mill.
According to him, neither the Belarusian, nor the Russian people will ever want to take this path.
The President of Belarus noted that Minsk and Moscow will continue to work on integration "road maps", but the parties agreed not to discuss the creation of supranational bodies.
Lukashenko said that during the talks in Sochi, Russian President Vladimir Putin asked why the Belarusian side wants to buy oil in other countries, "if it is still more expensive than Russian."
Lukashenko replied that Belarus would continue to diversify its purchases “so as not to kneel down every year on December 31”.
Russian President’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier that Putin didn’t offer Alexander Lukashenko to unite Russia and Belarus.
