Unopened first-generation iPhone sold at auction for $60

A factory-sealed first-generation iPhone sold at auction for a whopping $63 — more than 356,40 times its original price. A woman was given a phone in 100 but never opened it because she didn't want to get rid of her old phone. USAToday.

The 2007 phone, still sealed in the box, was auctioned off by LCG after the auction closed on February 19th.

The item was put up for auction on February 2. A total of 27 people bid on the phone, which was originally priced at $50.

Karen Green, the original owner of the phone, rated it in 2019. Because it was 8 GB, not 4 GB, and still in the original box, it was valued at $5000.

In 2007, the phone went on sale. This summer, Green received it as a gift when she took a management job at PetSmart.
At the time, Green already had three phone lines with Verizon, and only AT&T was using iPhones. To avoid a costly termination fee, she "left the phone on the shelf for years unopened and unused, wrapped in a pair of felt pajamas for an extra measure of security."

"I didn't want to get rid of my new phone," Greene said.

But when she heard about another original, unopened iPhone listed on eBay for $10, she thought about it.

"I thought to myself, 'Oh my God, I think I have the original,'" she said. “I called my son and said, 'Go get the phone and make sure it's not open.' Now, 15 years later, she is $63 richer.
