California Neurosurgeon Kills Patients with Equine Painkillers
A California neurosurgeon was arrested on suspicion of killing his patients and prescribed a huge amount of various potent painkillers to them. Writes about this Lenta.Ru.
72-year-old Thomas Keller is charged with four murders, elder abuse and four cases of prescribing opioids without a legitimate purpose. It is indicated that he gave patients from 180 to 300 painkillers for one course of treatment.
This happened from 2011 to 2018 during receptions in his private office in the city of Santa Rosa (California). At the same time, pharmacists and insurance companies warned the specialist about his wrong actions, but he did not listen to them.

It is believed that Keller was involved in the death of five people. He prescribed Vicodin, Oxycodone and Morphine to them “in quantities significantly exceeding accepted medical practice,” said Attorney General Xavier Becerra. The names of the victims are not named, but one death is known in 2015 and two in 2016 and 2017.
“This is the first time we have arrested and charged the doctor with murder due to an excessive amount of prescribed opioids,” said the spokeswoman for the prosecutor general.
At the same time, the lawyer of the neurosurgeon pointed out that what was happening was a terrible injustice, and the prosecutor general’s office was "climbing over to show that they were fighting an opioid crisis." According to him, the three “murders” are suicides, and one more is an accidental overdose due to the use of methadone, which the patient did not mention.

Keller graduated from the Department of Medicine at the University of California, Davis and worked as a neurosurgeon in the US Army and Aviation. His license was suspended in 1990 due to allegations of sexual violence against 10 female patients. It was restored after seven years.
Also, in the fall, 2018 was suspended from medical practice due to charges of fraud in the field of healthcare and drug trafficking outside of professional practice. For this case, the doctor faces up to 45 years in prison.
