'We're starting a new chapter': Hugh Jackman divorces wife after 27 years of marriage

The love story of Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness has come to an end after almost three decades of marriage. Writes about this Page Six.

“We have been blessed to share nearly three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” the former couple said in a joint statement. “Our path is now changing and we have decided to go our separate ways to continue our individual growth.”

Jackman, 54, and Furness, 67, continued: “Our family is and always will be our top priority. We begin this new chapter with gratitude, love and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding and respect for our privacy as our family navigates this transition in our lives.”

The statement, signed "Deb and Hugh Jackman," ended with the words: "This is the only statement any of us will make."

Jackman and Furness tied the knot in 1996 and have two adopted children: 23-year-old Oscar Maximilian Jackman and 18-year-old Ava Eliot Jackman.

The actors, originally from Australia, met on the set of the Australian television series Correlli in 1995.

Their long-lasting marriage was often celebrated in Hollywood for standing the test of time.

Jackman and Furness enjoyed spending a lot of time together and were often spotted doing fun activities, including riding scooters around New York City and swimming in the Hamptons.

One of The Greatest Showman star's last Instagram posts with his now ex-wife was when they attended the Met Gala together in May. It is unknown how soon after this they decided to separate.

Despite their united front, they were often criticized due to their 13-year age difference and the fact that Jackman was dating an older woman.

In 2014, Furness said she found it offensive to say she was “lucky” to be married to the X-Men star.

“For me this is an insult. It's like saying I won the lottery. “I believe that we create our own destiny,” said the Australian actress. “When people look at my life, they don’t know what problems I face, just like I don’t know what problems others face.”
