'May grow to hundreds': US e-cigarette deaths skyrocket

Two more Americans lost their lives due to a disease associated with vaping. The total number of deaths due to the use of electronic cigarettes has reached 11 people. Writes about this New York Post.

Recent deaths have been reported by health officials in Florida and Georgia.

The Florida Department of Health has published an updated count of vaping incidents. According to the agency, 27 cases have been reported this year.

While the Georgia Department of Health announced that it had registered the state’s first death from a “vaping-related illness." According to the department, the patient was severely poisoned by toxic fumes.

And the Georgia Department of Health said it recorded nine confirmed cases of lung diseases associated with vaping in Georgia, and noted that other cases are pending.

In all cases, patients - from the age of 18 to 68 years with an average age of 26 years - were hospitalized with pneumonia without known infectious causes.

Earlier vaping-related deaths have been confirmed in California, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota and Oregon.

According to the latest data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), at least 38 cases of lung damage associated with the use of electronic cigarettes or vaping products have been reported in 530 US states.

Dr. Ann Schuchat, CDC's chief executive officer, said this week that the number of lung diseases associated with vaping could soon grow to hundreds.
