Billionaires New York asked to increase taxes for them

80 richest New Yorkers, including George Soros, Stephen Rockefeller and Abigail Disney, signed an appeal to the state legislature and Governor Andrew Cuomo. They asked to increase the tax rate for the "super rich", reports golos-ameriki.ru.

The authors of the letter believe that they must “pay more,” supporting municipal schools, paying for the needs of homeless and poor citizens in the state. In addition, taxes can be used as additional funds for the repair of roads and bridges.

“Now is the time to invest in New York's long-term economic attractiveness. We must invest more in finding ways out of poverty and creating new economic opportunities for our fellow citizens, including decent public education starting in kindergarten. We must invest in the bridges, tunnels, water pipelines, public buildings and roads on which we all depend,” the letter says.

Billionaires offered to support the project proposed by the liberal Tax Policy Institute, which developed a system of changes in state tax legislation. Now, tax rates for New Yorkers are among the highest in the United States, often exceeding 40% income. At the same time, the majority of the “super-rich” receive basic dividends as income from operations with securities and investments, paying at an annual rate of 26% or less.

Democrats in the state legislature have already said they are ready to support the initiative of billionaires.
