Revenge of the airline: mechanic intentionally ruined the aircraft's navigation system before departure
An American Airlines employee is accused of disabling the aircraft’s navigation system, which was supposed to fly out of Miami. The reason for this act was stalled negotiations on a trade union agreement with the company, writes Daily Mail.
Abdul-Majid Maruf Ahmed Alani, an airline veteran mechanic, was arrested Thursday on charges of intentional damage, destruction or aircraft damage.
Aboard, heading from Miami to Nassau, there were 150 people. Crew warned of the problem using a warning system before they took off on 17 July.

Pilots delivered the aircraft to the American Airlines hangar at Miami International Airport for routine maintenance and eventually discovered unauthorized access during the checkout. According to the document, another mechanic discovered a pipe under the cab, which was filled with foam.
The federal prosecutor's office claims that Alani foamed a pipe leading from the outside of the aircraft to the data module. The system reports aircraft speed and other flight data.
According to reports, the accused explained to the federal air marshals that he was angry because of stalled negotiations on a contract between the mechanics union and the airline, because it caused him material damage. He allegedly specified that he did not want to harm anyone on board, but intervened in the aircraft data module to cause a “delay or cancellation of the flight."

Investigators said Alani was suspected after watching the video. On it, as reported, Alani gets out of the truck on the day of the flight and enters the compartment where the navigation system was located.
Alani is expected to stand trial on Friday.
