Mass shooting at Indiana mall leaves 3 dead, XNUMX injured
An armed man opened fire inside a food court at the Greenwood Park shopping center in Indianapolis on the evening of July 17, killing three people and wounding two, reports WRTV.
According to law enforcement officers, a man entered the Greenwood Park Mall with a rifle and several ammo magazines and started shooting at food court visitors. At the same time, a 22-year-old boy was in the shopping center, who had legally acquired weapons with him. He shot the intruder.
Initial reports of the shooter came just after 18:00 pm. Arriving officers cordoned off the scene and located the victims, including four women and one man.

Three people were pronounced dead on the spot.
Two men were among those killed at the scene, according to the Johnson County coroner. Another man and woman were declared dead at the Franciscan Health Indianapolis and Eskenazi hospital.
The bodies of the suspect and one of the victims were removed from the mall around 2 am on July 18, sources said.
Police say one of the survivors, an underage girl, suffered only minor injuries and was taken to the hospital separately. A second person was taken to the hospital from the scene, his condition is unknown at the moment.
Officials say the shooter has been identified, but officials have not released the identities of those killed in the shooting.
At a briefing on the evening of July 17 around 8 p.m., police said the shooter was killed by an armed civilian in the Greenwood Park Mall food court. The civilian cooperates with the officials.
On the evening of July 17, Greenwood Mayor Mark W. Myers issued a statement thanking the armed civilian for his "quick action and heroism" during the shooting.
“At this time, we do not know the identity or motive of the shooter. We know that someone was able to shoot the attacker and stop further bloodshed. This man saved lives today. On behalf of the City of Greenwood, I thank him for his quick action and heroism in this situation,” he said.
Indianapolis Assistant Chief of Police Chris Bailey said, "We are sick of another incident like this in our country."
The Johnson County bomb squad was called after an abandoned backpack was found at a mall. Police later said the bag had been checked and did not pose a threat.
The Marion County Coroner will assist the Johnson County Coroner in identifying the victims of the shooting and the shooter. As of the evening of July 17, no identities have been released. The Johnson County Coroner's Office said it would work to identify the shooter and one victim.
The identification and autopsy of the other two victims will be handled by the Marion County Coroner's office, as these individuals were declared dead in Indianapolis hospitals.

The armed civilian was identified as a 22-year-old resident of Bartholomew County. No other information about this man was released by the authorities.
