How to entertain children while waiting at the airport
Adults who are forced to sit at the airport for hours can go to a bar, go shopping or eat at a restaurant, but children are not interested in such entertainment, so waiting at the airport is often accompanied by their whining and crying.
You can, of course, divert them with gadgets, but at airports there are many other interesting activities that will help dispel the boredom of young passengers, writes Travel and Leisure.
Look at the planes
Sometimes the best option for entertaining children at the airport is a great show created by airplanes outside the window. Some airports even use it, creating special observation platforms. For example, Baltimore-Washington International Airport has a large gallery for observing airplanes (with exhibitions and a snack bar), and at the entrance to the 2 terminal at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport there is a small observation deck for observing liners.
Visit art exhibitions
Many airports have art and historical exhibitions throughout the year. Until September, the San Francisco International Airport hosts an amusing exhibition of vintage automatic machines that provided various services for coins, including sprinkling customers with perfumes. At Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, you can find an exhibition of ships in bottles, and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport holds various exhibitions of works of art at the 2, 3 and 4 terminals (they are constantly changing, but they are available almost all year round).
Play with puppies
Dozens of dogs wearing “Pet Me!” vests regularly stroll through dozens of U.S. airports, which can distract children from the tedium of waiting for a while. They will patiently pose for photos and play with the babies. At some airports you can play not only with dogs, but with other animals. For example, in San Francisco, guests can play with a pig.
Children's entertainment at Orlando Airport
Arcade, 14-ton aquarium, bright food court, fun fountain, as well as statues of Mickey Mouse, Snow White and other famous children's characters with which to take pictures, make Orlando International Airport more like a theme park than an airport. Shops from Kennedy Space Center, Disney, SeaWorld and Universal Orlando offer to buy bright souvenirs from amusement parks. And from the top floor of the airport you can watch for free the night fireworks at Disney Park.
Robots and Mr. Rogers
Pittsburgh International Airport keeps kids entertained in its Kidsport area, filled with interactive displays, an exhibit honoring Fred Rogers and his TV show "Mister Rogers," and a giant T. rex skeleton. The airport also boasts an installation called the world's only airport robot repair shop, with a giant transporter nearby.
Entertainment for children at Chicago airport
At Chicago International Airport O'Hara, the popular playground “Kids on the Fly” is constantly operating, it is located in the 2 terminal and offers kids a variety of stylized toys on the subject of airport and flight. In the terminal 1 is a four-story model of a brachiosaurus skeleton, kids can walk on it, developing their physical shape and having fun in the neon lights of the sculpture.
