Famous hospital in New York accused of negligence of children's doctors
An American pediatrician who has worked for three years at Coney Island Hospital (Coney Island Hospital), told reporters about the negligence of doctors towards young patients, writes nypost.com.
The pediatrician shared specific examples that speak about the lack of professionalism of the medical staff of a well-known hospital in New York.
Often, doctors found it difficult to diagnose small patients; student interns working in the hospital for almost 24 hours could not provide urgent help to children.
“In the third year, a boy came to our hospital with pain when breathing. He looked very bad. The patient could barely breathe. I tried to transfer him to the intensive care unit because we didn't have a special mask to help him breathe. I called the attending physician, but he was not there. We barely saved the baby,” the pediatrician shares information.
Moreover, in the hospital, doctors are guided by the old methods of treatment, says the pediatrician. At the hospital premises, medical workers allowed themselves lunch, leaving food debris right in the wards.
“One day we were brought in a girl who had seizures. She urgently needed an injection. But the nurses didn't know where the medicine was. I had to leave the little patient and look for the drug myself. Such cases were repeated regularly,” the publication’s journalists quote the pediatrician as saying.
Now the pediatrician who told the truth about everyday life at Coney Island Hospital, quit.
“When we become doctors, we all take an oath to do no harm.” We should always choose the procedure that will cause the least harm to patients. But all this seems to be lost in the Coney Island hospital,” said the doctor.
After the 4 screening checks that took place at the hospital, 34 was instructed to eliminate violations from the management of the facility.
“The health and safety of our patients continues to be our top priority. We take all allegations against our current health care delivery system very seriously. We are now at the reform stage - and by 2017 we hope to fulfill our promise. We are committed to providing superior patient care,” a hospital spokesman said.
