US Secretary of State did not rule out the possibility of war against North Korea

The US policy of “strategic patience” towards North Korea is over, and among the options the United States is considering the possibility of using military action.

This was stated by US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson during a visit to Seoul (South Korea), reports with the BBC.

“Of course, we don’t want to lead to a military conflict. But it is obvious that if North Korea takes actions that threaten South Korean or our troops, then the response will be adequate. If its weapons program reaches such an alarming level that it requires us to take military action, then we have that option,” Tillerson said.

He also suggested that China introduce sanctions against North Korea and called on Beijing not to retaliate against the deployment of the American THAAD missile defense system in South Korea.

This is the first visit by the new US Secretary of State to Asia. Tillerson’s predecessor, John Kerry, assured that neither the United States nor China would accept the DPRK as a nuclear power, and suggested that Pyongyang abandon its nuclear program and surrender nuclear weapons, if the country has one.

THAAD is an American system for intercepting medium-range ballistic missiles, capable of hitting them at high altitudes. In early March, the United States began deploying THAAD systems in South Korea, something the countries agreed to in July 2016.

At the US military bases in South Korea, there are about 28 thousands of American soldiers.

On March 6, North Korea conducted another missile test - according to Pyongyang, the army was practicing nuclear strikes on American bases in Japan (there are 91 US facilities in this country). Four ballistic missiles flew towards the Sea of ​​Japan, 3 of them fell 300-500 kilometers from the Japanese Oga Peninsula.
