“North Korean authorities are calling on citizens to support the national armed forces and hand over foil, which is called strategic material,” notes Radio Free Asia, citing its own sources in the DPRK. According to him, it is necessary to create camouflage nets, which, according to those responsible for its collection, interfere with American spy satellites.
“It is alleged that such grids make objects covered by them invisible to US reconnaissance satellites. In particular, we are talking about air defense systems,” TASS emphasizes.
Even schoolchildren are taking part in the campaign to collect “strategic material”. They are on the streets searching for discarded cigarette packs, which are made using foil, the radio station notes.
However, a 2005 study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology showed that foil shielding can both attenuate and enhance radiation, depending on the frequency, writes the American magazine The Atlantic.
