The death of children at the school bus stop: elder sister tried to shut down the brothers

9-year-old girl, crossing the street to catch the school bus, held the hands of their younger twin brothers and closed them themselves, before they died from an SUV run-in in Indiana.

This was told by the uncle of the baby Elgin Ingle, writes CNN.

According to the man, his niece Alivia Stahl acted more like a mother, not a sister, protecting 6-year-olds Xavier and Mason Ingle. He thanked Alivia for her courage in the last moments.

“She had a second to think about what to do and chose to protect her brothers,” he said.

The man added that the mother of the victims ran to them immediately after the accident, but then stopped abruptly, being in a state of shock.

“How do you decide which child to run to when all your children are lying on the highway?” - he explained the woman’s condition.

What happened

Around 7: 15 on Tuesday, when three children took to the street in Rochester to take a school bus that was waiting on the other side of the street with twinkling lights to attract the attention of drivers on the road, 24-year-old Alyssa Shepherd driving a Toyota Tacoma to death hit the children who crossed the road — all three died on the spot.

Another student was taken to the hospital with several broken bones and internal injuries, the boy is in a stable condition.

The woman driving the SUV was charged with three murders because of negligence and violation of the rules for driving past the school bus.

She remained at the scene, but the police arrested Shepherd later that day at her workplace. She was later released on bail in 15 000 dollars, on November 13 the first court session on this case will be held.

According to the uncle of the victims, the twins were very active children, and their sister showed courage and compassion throughout her short life.
