What is known about the person who committed the terrorist attack in New Zealand
On the eve firing in two mosques in the New Zealand city of Christchurch, the Australian Brenon Tarrant published in the social networks a 74-page manifesto, where he explained the motives of the planned attack.
The terrorist grew up in an ordinary family, worked as a fitness trainer, traveled - and held radical right-wing views, wanting to "create an atmosphere of fear." On the arms of Tarrant and three other detainees were the names of the battles against the Muslims and the names of the generals, the TV channel writesRain".
In his manifesto, The Great Replacement, 28-year-old Brenon Tarrant called himself an “ethnonationalist” and a “fascist,” and also confirmed that the attack on the mosque was a terrorist attack. He explained his actions with a desire to "create an atmosphere of fear" and provoke violence against Muslims. As stated in the manifesto, he himself did not seek glory.
The Australian said that before the attack, he allegedly was able to briefly communicate with Anders Breivik, who is serving a sentence for killing an 77 man during an explosion and a shootout in Oslo. The terrorist claims he received a “blessing” from him. Many media outlets indicate that criminal manifestos are similar.
The choice of firearms Tarrant explained that he was going to attract public attention as much as possible. On the machine guns, the terrorists left chauvinistic inscriptions in different languages - battles against Muslims of different eras and their participants are mentioned (including the general of the Russian-Turkish war Iosif Gurk). Also there were the names of the performers of several terrorist acts of recent years - student Anton Lundin Peterson, who killed the children of migrants in Sweden in 2015, and Alexander Bissonnet, who shot the worshipers of the mosque in Canada in 2017.
Photos of the manifesto on Twitter and other social networks began to be blocked - just like stream on Facebook, where the terrorist for some reason called to subscribe to the channel of the popular blogger PewDiePie. He rejected the connection with the shooter, wrote that "he was sick of being mentioned by this man," and expressed sympathy to the families of the victims. Before the attack, according to The Balkan Insight, Tarrant sang a song dedicated to the first President of the Republika Srpska Radovan Karadzic, convicted of the genocide of Bosnian Muslims.
Together with Tarrant, they detained three more people, including a woman. New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jasinda Ardern, said that none of them had ever been accused of terrorism. The police are investigating the connection of other detainees with the shooter.
