How to take a child on a rainy weekend in New York

In the middle of autumn, when day plans can dramatically break the rains, it’s not so fun to walk around New York with the whole family, even if you love this city with all your heart. But school holidays are approaching, and on weekends you need to take something with children, in addition to modern gadgets. I made a list of the most interesting entertainment centers in different parts of the city for every taste and budget.

The most popular in the list of family travel places were and remain two museums - Children's Museum in Manhattan и Museum of Natural Historywhich can be visited practically free of charge. But what if you do not want to go to Manhattan, for example, from Queens, or both of these museums have been studied far and wide and you need to show the children something new?

New York Science Center in Queens, he will acquaint children with the latest achievements of science and technology; this is a real paradise for those interested in natural science, robotics and computers.

The most remarkable thing is that almost everything here can be touched with your own hands, and in special classes you can learn how to build, cut, plane and even assemble simple electronic circuits. The center is open from Monday to Friday from 9.30 hours of the morning to 5 hours of the evening and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 hours of the morning to 6 hours of the evening. Fridays from 2 to 5 hours and on Saturdays from 10 to 11 hours free admission! The rest of the time, the tickets cost 16 dollars for adults (from 18 years and older) and 13 dollars for children (from 2 to 17 years).

Students and seniors - 13 dollars. The price is naturally higher if you purchase a ticket, which, in addition to the main exhibition, includes mini-golf, 3D cinema and a visit to the “children's town”. By the way, here you can spend the night - and this will really be the most memorable “night in the museum” for your young scientist! For 85 dollars, the child gets the opportunity to stay at the Center from 6.30 evenings to 9 in the morning, where the museum staff will look after him, he will be offered to take part in training seminars and visit the cinema, and during the movie they will treat you to cookies and warm milk. Cornflakes, orange juice and bagels are offered to children for breakfast.

City treehouse - a very popular children's entertainment center in Chelsea, Manhattan. In fact, it is very similar to the Children's Museum in Manhattan, but with a much larger number of slides, ladders and all sorts of children's labyrinths.

A huge table filled with water is conditionally divided by sectors, so that any child, from 8 months to 8 years, can find himself a game-experiment by age and interest: you can build a dam or a water mill or just try to get bright balls from a fountain . There are also developing classes for kids. You will be charged 10 dollars for your first visit to the center, and then either buy a ticket for 20 dollars per child, or 40 dollars for a family, or season tickets (there are a certain number of hours, a year and so on). There is always a lot of visitors in the center, so places must be booked in advance.

Chelsea playground on Staten Island, this is a real playground, in which a ballerina and a fireman, a fruit seller and a postman, a teacher and a policeman get along together perfectly. It has everything to help your child develop his imagination - children can put their own performance on a small theatrical stage or “send” parcels by local mail, make purchases or eat at a “restaurant”, play school.

The children's town, by the way, is very similar to the center at the Museum of the History of Civilization in Ottawa. In addition, there are three-level tunnels, slides, trampolines, swings, and even a special climbing wall! The center is open daily, a ticket costs 9.99 for a child and 4.99 for an adult. As an option - here you can celebrate a birthday!

Bounceu brooklyn - This is, first of all, a center for children's birthdays and holidays. There are many trampolines for any age and weight. But for 16 dollars (and having previously reserved a visit day) you can come and jump in plenty, most importantly, do not forget to take your socks with you. However, to jump on the trampolines, it is not necessary to go to Brooklyn - there are such centers in every district of New York.

But, in general, if with the previous centers everything is more or less clear, then the 3,5 which opened a year ago in Westchester LEGOLAND Discovery Center still remains one of the most interesting and attractive for both children and adults.

The success of Legoland, it seems to me, is that it successfully combines the usual entertainment (slides, mazes, tunnels, carousel, laser shooter) and a 4D cinema in which splashes of water will fly at you, the wind will blow, and a chair will vibrate under you - and all this will create a complete feeling that you are acting in concert with the heroes of the short Lego films.

Every half an hour, special seminars take place here, where you will be taught to build some interesting Lego figure (you can then purchase a self-assembled figure for 5 dollars).

For younger children there is a playground built from Lego Duplo - cubes designed for kids up to 5 years. For girls - two-room “apartment” of Lego friends - there is a kitchen with a fridge, a mixer, a stove and a living room with a real karaoke, where you can choose any popular song and sing it with friends.

For boys - the hall dedicated to “Star Wars”. You can arrange a race in starships, for example.

Legoland also offers to go through a small “quest” - for extra money you will be given a special book, which you need to fill out by placing stamps on special postal installations.

Another Legoland miracle is the so-called Miniland, New York, built from Lego cubes. Depending on the season, it is decorated in different ways every time - either artificial snow or green twigs.

In general, it is not surprising that Legoland is so popular. Therefore, it is better to buy tickets there in advance. An online ticket costs 15.95 dollars, and at the box office - 22 dollars. It also hosts evenings for adults only (15 dollars for a ticket) for Lego fans. You can buy an annual subscription for 65 dollars for one (or “family” - and then for each family member you will have to pay 62.50 dollars). The subscription also gives you a discount on 10% when celebrating birthdays, shopping at a Lego store or here in a cafe. From Monday to Friday Legoland is open from 10 hours of the morning until 7 hours of the evening (but the entrance closes at 5 hours of the evening) and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 hours of the morning to 9 hours of the evening (entrance closes at 7 hours of the evening).

Chuck e cheese's - centers with slot machines, designed for visitors of any age, located in all areas of New York. You get a special credit card, which gives you the opportunity to play on the machines. If you win, you get tickets, which can then be exchanged for some unnecessary, but very important for the child's trinket - a bracelet made of rubber, a plastic ring, a mini-toy, a bookmark or a cud. Prizes are more serious - a set of puzzles, a doll or superheroes - “worth” more points. However, tickets can be saved and saved to the desired amount. From my own experience I recommend visiting those centers of this network that have recently opened - here the attractions are the cleanest and not yet broken. It is also better to come here at the weekend to the very discovery, then the people will be smaller.
